Grey elm

Wood species / Trade name:

Grey elm

  • German: Graurüster
  • French: Orme Blanc
  • Chinese: 美洲榆木(灰榆木)

Botanical name:

Ulmus americana, Ulmus alba

Character / Color:

Structurally, the hard grey elm has the same decorative vivacity as the European elm. The pores produce clear annual rings, which, in turn, lead to the expressive jagged grain or stripes on the longitudinal surfaces. The golden brown coloring of the grey elm, which is lighter and less intense than the European elm, produces lovely brown shading in the rift grain on the radial plane.

Main occurence:

North America
