The figured Swiss pearwood is a highly decorative variety of the wild fruit tree, which has been one of the most highly desirable and expensive types of wood since the early 1980s.  Appearing alongside the delicately grained, sometimes flamy but simple texture are more or less regular and distinct stripes which run across the grain. Together they give the whitish-yellow to faint red and sometimes reddish-yellow to reddish brown wood a markedly extravagant radiance.
