The splendid purple color of this straight-grained South American wood is particularly captivating.  Frequently occurring interlocked fibers give the grain an irregular look. Growth zones are nearly unrecognizable. The light-colored pores, scattered across a dark background, are often filled with a white substance. In the structure of this unusual and decorative wood you can see stripes, waves and dark vessel lines.
