Sapele
Wood species / Trade name:
Sapele
Names:
- German: Sapeli
- French: Sapelli
- Chinese: 沙比利
Botanical name:
Entandophragma cylindricum
Character / Color:
The heartwood which is pinkish brown to light red changes to an intense reddish brown color as the wood dries. Surface treatment brings out the depth of color and adds a golden glimmer similar to that seen in true mahogany. The characteristic interlocked fiber of the wood results in beautiful shimmery stripes, which frequently run uniformly and very close together. Fine comb grain on the radial surface also enlivens the veneer figure.
