From Passion to Profession: Leo's Inspiring Start in the Wood and Veneer World at Schorn & Groh
Have you ever considered working in the wood and veneer sector at Schorn & Groh? Today, we introduce you to our youngest colleague, who has been with our company for 3 months. His name is Leo Weyherter, he's 22 years old, and he studied Forestry and Environment at the University of Freiburg in southwestern Germany.
Our Forest – Is There Still Enough Wood in Germany?
The situation in the German forestry industry has changed noticeably in recent years. Climate change, pests, and storm damage have significantly affected the forests. In 2023, logging saw a marked decline: only 70.6 million cubic meters of wood were harvested in Germany’s forests, a decrease of 10.3% compared to the previous year. This drop raises important questions for roundwood procurement: How will the supply develop in the future? And is there still enough wood in Germany?

Lumber from Schorn & Groh for the German Horticultural Show (BUGA) 2023
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) has built an innovative structure called "ReGrow Timber Canopy" for the National Garden Show Mannheim 2023. For the realization of this project, the KIT relied on the consistently high quality of Schorn & Groh products.
FOR THE BEAUTY OF SOUND
Benjamin RENOUX made this copy of a pianoforte based on the work of Viennese piano maker Anton Walter, the year of the inspired model: approx. 1795. The highest quality veneer from the Karlsruhe veneer manufacturer Schorn & Groh was used for this exceptional piece, 2mm Indian rosewood and 2mm maple – to be precise.
