Lumber from Schorn & Groh at BUGA 2023: Nature meets innovation!
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) has built an innovative structure called "ReGrow Timber Canopy" for the Bundesgartenschau Mannheim 2023.
The Bundesgartenschau is a prominent German event focusing on horticulture, which also includes thematic areas such as landscape architecture. It is held every two years in different German cities, this year in the city of Mannheim.
The "ReGrow Timber Canopy" is a joint project of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and its project partners. For the realization of this project, KIT relied on the consistent and top quality of Schorn & Groh products. The innovative structure consists of 900 fir wood lamellas, each 6m long.
The special feature is both in the length of the lamellas and in the processing of them: The pavilion was manufactured without any use of adhesives. Here KIT used the latest research results in bending and mechanical lamination of wooden structure.
Schorn & Groh, based in Karlsruhe, Germany, is one of the leading companies in the veneer industry, but the expertise in wood extends beyond thinner grades. Its lumber warehouse has been growing for years and now holds over 3,000 cubic meters of high-quality lumber, decking boards, solid tree slabs, and spectacular single-piece table tops.
