Our new trainee in wholesale and foreign trade!

We are pleased to introduce our new trainee Lena Vollmer, who has been part of the Schorn & Groh team since September 2023. Her enthusiasm for the forestry and timber industry, which she developed in her family and during her studies, brings a breath of fresh air to our company. In this interview, Lena talks a little about herself, her training and her first impressions at Schorn & Groh.

Lena, could you tell us a little about yourself?

With pleasure! I am 26 years old and come from Pforzheim. Since September 2023, I have been training as a wholesale and foreign trade management clerk specializing in foreign trade at Schorn & Groh. I became interested in the forestry and timber industry at an early age, a passion that I developed in my family and later during my studies.

How is your training going and what have you particularly enjoyed so far?

In the first part of my training, I spend a lot of time in the warehouse and in the customer showrooms. Here I get to know the various tasks and discover the wood species as well as their design and application possibilities – I am fascinated by this every time. My training takes place in alternating periods of work and school, every 3-4 weeks I switch between theory and practice. In the second year of my apprenticeship, I will then work in other departments at Schorn & Groh – including purchasing, marketing, logistics and finance. I'm really looking forward to that! My apprenticeship in the field of foreign trade focuses on international markets, but we also learn about customer-oriented work, marketing, product range creation, occupational safety and environmental protection. English as a foreign language is also particularly important in foreign trade.

What do you particularly like about your work at Schorn & Groh?

I am particularly happy to learn something new every day and to put it into practice immediately. The support and the friendly working environment are also big plus points. I also like the fact that my German quail dog Hera is allowed to come to the office with me every day. She has become an important and welcome part of the team.

What are your hopes for the future?

I look forward to further developing my knowledge and skills in the timber industry and actively contributing to the success of Schorn & Groh. I am excited about the challenges ahead and about realizing my passion for wood in my professional career.

Thank you, Lena, for the exciting interview and your insights into the training program.
