Schorn & Groh buys the largest oak tree in the company's history at auction.

An extraordinary XXXL oak log from Aulendorf is capturing the hearts of nature lovers and the timber trade. Strengthened by a fascinating history and impressive dimensions of 8.70 meters in length and a diameter of 1.62 meters, this extraordinary tree has embarked on a journey through the centuries and across geographical borders.

Interested parties followed the development of this majestic tree, which is unique in its dimensions, with great interest. Through a variety of articles in local media such as “Schwäbische.de”, the story of this XXXL oak came to life, from its discovery to its upcoming new purpose.

The "tiny" saw stands in the shade of the mighty tree.

As the largest log Schorn & Groh has ever purchased at auction in the company's history, this XXXL oak marks a milestone in the world of timber trading. Its origin from a royal estate, once owned by the historic noble Königsegg family from Upper Swabia, lends the oak an aristocratic aura and a history that stretches back centuries. The current owner of the forest assumes that the oak was planted deliberately and that it is a pedunculate oak. The tragic fall of the tree as a result of the storm from July 11 to 12, 2023, named as low pressure RONSON, with peak gusts of up to 143 km/h, illustrates the unpredictability of nature and the fragility of its heritage.

But out of this tragedy comes an inspiring story of sustainability and upcycling. Through the careful work of our log buyers, who purchased the impressive oak trunk at auction for one of our customers, this majestic piece of nature is brought back to life as a symbol of the connection between man and nature and the appreciation of its precious resources.
