The warm glow of veneer in the kitchen

The original idea brought the finest olive veneer to light. The veneer runs like a broad band around the cabinet, with backlighting along the entire surface. The combination of lightly-hued veneer and warm light makes the whole cabinet look like a dimmed lamp.

To illuminate the veneer to full effect, a great deal of light had to be generated. That requirement was fulfilled by built-in LED lighting. In addition, the veneer was cut as thin as possible, a technique allowed by the use of fleeced veneer, known as fleece´n´flex by Schorn & Groh.

Another advantage of fleeced veneer is its great flexibility. The cabinetmaker had no trouble in applying the razor-thin veneer to the curved sides of the cabinet. The sensitive surface was sealed with a tough polyamide resin (DD lacquer) to protect it long term from kitchen conditions.
