Gerlingen secondary school: Functionality & aesthetics combined

After a four-year construction period, the comprehensively renovated and extended Gerlingen secondary school opened on time for the start of the 2023/2024 school year. The project, which is one of the largest construction projects in the city of Gerlingen, was officially inaugurated and impresses with its award-winning architecture.

The city of Gerlingen expanded the existing secondary school from 2.5 to 3 classes and added a canteen to provide the pupils with a clear place of identification. The architectural concept was designed by Wulf Architekten and is characterized by a contemporary design with large windows and a facade cladding made of profiled concrete elements. The canteen was erected as a finely structured solitaire in timber construction and contributes to the warm and inviting atmosphere of the building.

Particular attention was paid to the interior design of the rooms, with high-quality oak veneer from Schorn & Groh playing a central role. Schorn & Groh provided approx. 4000 square meters of exquisite oak veneer for this project, which was delivered to Akustik & Raum in Olten in the form of joined veneer decks with a solid wood character. Akustik & Raum then produced custom-made acoustic cladding consisting of a perforated veneer surface and a perforated panel as an absorber. The acoustic panels were then sent to Glock Holzinnenausbau, which was responsible for the interior fit-out. These wooden surfaces create a warmth and elegance that integrate perfectly into the overall concept of the school.
