SWISS KINDERGARTEN IN NEW SPLENDOUR

Masterful fusion: veneer, glass and concrete in perfect harmony

As in many places, there was an urgent need for kindergarten places in picturesque Würenlingen in the canton of Aargau. The municipality decided to buy a centrally located plot of land that had previously served as a parking lot. But where to put the cars? Without further ado, the kindergarten and the underground parking lot were combined into one building. With their innovative design for a triple kindergarten, the young Zurich architects Malte Kloes and Christoph Reichen prevailed against 40 competition participants and won the coveted first place! The avant-garde triple kindergarten project is not only a prime example of first-class architecture, but also a visionary concept that fits harmoniously into and enriches the urban fabric.

For the interior, maritime pine veneer with as floral and wild a grain as possible was chosen to harmoniously complement and soften the austere appearance of concrete and glass. Since maritime pine veneer was not available due to the production requirements and the lengths needed, Schorn & Groh proved to be a competent solution partner who mastered the situation with aplomb. The southern German veneer specialist facilitated a smooth consultation and presented convincing alternatives. In the end, Schorn & Groh delivered an impressive 1,200 square meters of Carolina Pine veneer with particularly wide leaves, carefully selected to achieve the desired wild look according to the architect's ideas.

For this project, in addition to raw veneers, spliced veneers with fleece backing with authentic board character were produced in the Eschelbronn branch of the veneer expert. Every wooden surface in this project, from wall panelling and sliding walls to doors, not only impresses with its warm and harmonious appearance, but also contributes to excellent room acoustics thanks to microperforation and acoustic panels from Akustik+Raum in Olten. A real statement in terms of design and functionality!
