Ulm University
(Biochemistry Department)
The architectural firm Bizer with offices in Stuttgart designed the building for the biochemistry department at Ulm University. Since 2007, the department has used the 5,700 square meters spread over three levels for research and instruction.
The space is beautified by the use of high-quality materials such as oak parquet, carpeting, glass, aluminum, acoustic fired clay bricks, exposed concrete, and – in the photo to the left – paneling and doors made of lively Red Oak Burl. The paneling was provided by Feederle of Karlsruhe.
The veneer was intentionally matched in a wild pattern and installed horizontally. The wood has an intense aura that dominates the atmosphere in the rooms and hallways.
