Character / Color:
Brown oak is not a separate type of wood. It is rather oak wood that has been discolored in the core by the beefsteak fungus – Fistulina hepatica – although the strength properties do not change. If the fungus penetrates the entire core, the wood appears in many dark brown shades. On the longitudinal surfaces, sharply defined annual rings create distinctive grain or stripes, with striking figures resulting in excellent radial patterns.
