Chestnut burl
Wood species / Trade name:
Chestnut burl
Names:
- German: Kastanie Maser
- French: Loupe de Châtaignier
- Chinese: 栗木树榴
Botanical name:
Castanea sativa
Character / Color:
Shadowy circles and whirls dominate the appearance of the rather rare chestnut burl. The cores of the small and very fine burls scattered throughout do not differ much in color from the heartwood. This cognac-colored veneer radiates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The production of chestnut burl veneer, which is challenging to begin with, is made more difficult by shake and the course of the grain. The wood therefore requires careful handling.
