The warm reddish gold wood of the pine tree is characterized by a sharp contrast between early and late growth. On the tangential surface the darker reddish brown late wood shows up as a striking figure and on the radial surface as strong stripes. Characteristic of the Scotch pine is the frequently occurring "hard streak growth“, which emerges in the irregular course of the annual rings and contributes to the unusual veneer figure.
