Plum tree
Wood species / Trade name:
Plum tree
Names:
- German: Zwetschge
- French: Prunier
- Chinese: 梅树木
Botanical name:
Prunus domestica
Character / Color:
The core of the plum is a vivid reddish brown wood shot through with violet veins. This clear streak of violet makes the wood decorative and elegant. Thanks to its hardness and fine, uniform structure, plum wood has a beautifully smooth and shiny surface. The narrow portion of sapwood in a yellow to light red tone clearly stands out from the heartwood. Lacquer with ultraviolet protection is required to maintain the lovely coloring over time. Unfortunately, the small dimensions available mean that only limited surface areas can be provided with this veneer.
