Wood species / Trade name:
Red oak , Red oak
- German: Bergeiche
- French: Chêne rouge
- Chinese: 红橡
Quercus cerris, Quercus rubra, Quercus falcata
Character / Color:
The red oak has a firm straight grain and lightly porous wood in a soft "fiery" red tone. Eye-catching figures or stripes – caused by circular arrays of early-wood vessels and clearly separated annual rings – show up on the longitudinal plane. The radial cut reveals strikingly exquisite grain patterns as well.
