The "appled" birch is a highly sought-after variety of regular stock with a decorative character. The growth rings are clearly separated from each other by somewhat darker late growth. Tangential cuts reveal a delicate yet vivid grain and scattered figures which sometimes look like small apples. The wood has a silky sheen in a range of colors from yellowish-white or reddish-white to light brown.
