Katalox trees are spreaded in Mexico, Central and northern South America. They are usually 10 to 20m tall. The core wood is dark reddish brown to nearly black but can be sometimes in a violet tone. The sapwood is often pale creamy white and is well separated from the core.
This specie is used for musical instruments, flooring, and other high-end projects.
