One of the world's most interesting woods is that of the African padouk, which, when fresh, is a luminous coral red. As the wood dries, the color changes to a soft purplish red and orangey reddish brown. The frequently occurring double cross-grain creates beautiful glossy stripes and emphasizes the elegant character of the wood. Occasional irregular and dark color striping adds interest to the veneer figure. It's important to treat the surface of the wood with a protective pigment to protect it from the light and keep the lovely color from fading.
