Palm black

Wood species / Trade name:

Palm black, Barigona, Copa Palm

Names:

  • German: Palme schwarz

Botanical name:

Iriartea deltoidea

Character / Color:

The outside part of the black palm is hard and heavy with a dense fibre structure and has many of the characteristics of hardwood. The character is a random series of black, dark brown and lighter, cookie-coloured, narrow stripes or lines that often interlock. The thickness is usually 1.0 mm, as the quality suffers when the slices are cut thinner. Black Palm Veneer is made similar to bamboo, i.e. small stripes are joined together in length and width. It is a relatively expensive veneer and is mainly used for special furniture and interiors.
