Structurally, the red elm has the same decorative vivacity as the European elm. The pores produce clear annual rings, which, in turn, lead to the expressive jagged grain or stripes on the longitudinal surfaces. The pink or reddish brown coloring of the red elm is complemented by lovely light effects caused by the short grain of the wood rays.
