Character / Color:
The heartwood is light brown to yellowish brown or pinkish brown with dark brown stripes and usually vague demarcation from the sapwood. The grain is straight to slightly wavy, the texture moderately coarse and even. Smoked Evene is Evene wood modified in colour. During "smoking", the wood is fumigated with ammonia or ammonia solution (ammonia water). This discolours it and gives it a brown to dark brown colour.
