The heartwood of Sucupira ranges from dark brown to reddish brown, with light thin veins, with sharply defined pale-yellowish to light brown sapwood. Pores are medium to coarse in size, scattered and occasionally with yellowish-grey contents. These are particularly heavy-duty, very hard woods that can only be machined with great effort. Sucupira can be cut after appropriate pre-treatment, the veneers may have a slightly "granular" surface.
