The Elsbeere or Swiss pearwood is a wild fruit tree and, since the early 1980s, has been one of the most sought-after and expensive types of wood. The very decorative and versatile wood is diffuse-porous with a uniform structure. A touch of elegance can be seen in the wood's subtly grainy, sometimes flamy and overall plain texture. The frequently occurring pith flecks enliven the figure of the wood, whose colors go from whitish-yellow to faint reddish or reddish-yellow to reddish-brown.
