Timborana
Wood species / Trade name:
Timborana
Names:
- German: Timborana
Botanical name:
Piptadenia suaveolens
Character / Color:
Timborana trees are straight and cylindrical and grow to a height of 20-30 m and a diameter of approx. 40-100 cm. The sapwood can be up to 8cm wide. The heartwood impresses with its elegant golden to reddish-brown coloring, which gives every room a warm and luxurious appearance. The sapwood shines in a lighter brown and creates a harmonious, natural look, although it is not always clearly distinguishable from the heartwood, creating a unique, seamless appearance. The grain of the wood, which is often figured or interlocked, gives each veneer log a special structure full of character. The evenly distributed large, open pores create a coarse, yet uniform texture. Thanks to its diffuse-porous nature and the irregular arrangement of the pores, usually individually or in radial groups of 2-3, the wood impresses with a natural, dynamic appearance. Occasional mineral deposits as well as partly indistinct and partly clear growth rings give the wood an additional authentic, natural charm. The color of the wood darkens slightly reddish over time, but not as much as Jatoba. Timborana veneer is often used for interior fittings and furniture.
