Unsteamed beech
Wood species / Trade name:
Unsteamed beech, Weissbuch, Buche Natur
Names:
- German: Buche ungedämpft
Botanical name:
Fagus sylvatica L.
Character / Color:
The sapwood and the heartwood are not different. The wood is whitish, going into grey. The pith rays are very broad and well defined. The pores are not visible to the naked eye, but the growth zones are clearly visible due to darker late wood with fewer pores than annual rings. Red beech is hard, heavy, compression-resistant and has an even and straight grained structure. Red beech can be steamed well and is then sold as steamed beech in a reddish colour. However, if it is not steamed, it is sold as largely whitish grey natural beech.
