Willow grows from southern Europe to part of northern latitude, but is also found in the Orient, Algeria and northern Asia. The tree is very fast-growing and can reach a height of 30m.  The often wide sapwood is whitish to yellowish-white, the core wood is from yellow-green to greenish blue to golden brown and darkens after.
